Life is Hard. Wear a Helmet

Virginia State Constitution: Article 1; Section 13
That a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe defense of a free state, therefore, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; that standing armies, in time of peace, should be avoided as dangerous to liberty; and that in all cases the military should be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power.

Shelby Lee Adams

I got a Garden & Gun magazine from Nancy the other day and I'm completely hooked. Great articles.

One of the first ones that hooked me was a piece written by Dean King, about the photographer Shelby Adams, and his work in Appalachia.

I got the video from an article by Mark Orr on Collectors World Online.

Check out Shelby Adam's work.

It will haunt you.

Pumpjockey, what amazes you about this? I am the first generation off the farm outa the hills of TN. My granpa never learned to drive or own a car until he was 62. Never had a public job, it really was literally 40 acres and a team of mules. Yankee carpetbaggers stole everything after the civil war. I hate the federal gov't, but I love my country. Retired from the Army. 4 tours of actual combat. And yes, I HATE the federal gov't. Oh yeah, and YANKEES too. I hear the battle flag a'poppin like some angry musket ball, I still smell the powder burnin and probly always will. I won't be reconstructed cause I don't give a DAMN.

Suz & Old NFO - I was thinking along the same lines. We keep fretting over the imminent collapse of the U.S. economy. I'm betting those hill folks wouldn't even notice. (Aside from a few extra strangers wandering into the holler that need to be sent on their way)

dhanna - What the hell would I do with myself if you didn't wander by here now and then to bust my balls?

B- I love you man, trust me I wouldn't mess with you if I didn't think you were G-to-G...BTW, I took a break from the Army once and did a stint in the AF, 78-81. 81150 Security Specialist,81st SPS, RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge. I was the only guy in the squadron that had all the training and qualification badges from the Army Infantry School. I helped set up the first SWAT team to respond to the NWSA. Did you ever see the UFO hunter shit on TV about the UFO landings and response to the the Rendalsham Forest landings in '80?
I gotta say plausible 'bro cause I was there, ISYN....Peoples careers got ruined, people had to retire, people got court-martialed cause weapons came up missing out of thin air...I went to jail at Lowery AFB detention facility, 3 months , 5 days. Gen Discharge. Took me almost 8 years to clear my record, come back in the Army in 88. Retired SFC(P) 06.

So I've been thinking about getting Garden & Gun magazine, but something strikes me as wrong for a magazine with that name refusing to allow the NRA to run ads in it.

I didn't know that about them...hmmm.

PS - Great to see you're still alive
